Thoughts This Fortnight

Healthcare Reform Will Not Turn Out Pretty

President Obama's Medical Care Plan is still on its way and we have now learned many promises made were just not true like, "if you like your current medical insurance you can keep it." With thousands of policies being canceled, it's not accurate. And the idea that ObamaCare will save us money on our insurance is illusory at best. Has anyone's medical bills gone down?

So what does the future hold? TCR suggests you look to Europe where government-run medical care is standard. In England, if you don't follow exercise programs prescribed by your doctor, you get a cut in welfare, and the government via a smart card will track your activities!

Not only that, prior to any surgery under ObamaCare, you will be required to undergo specific drug programs (whether they are good for you or not), which is why drug companies like ObamaCare! Of course, we know how the game is played. The medical industry changed the definition of high blood pressure and the definition of high cholesterol, so more of us are considered at risk.

TCR Comment: These are only the latest things to fear from ObamaCare. We promise it will get worse.

Obama Goes Limp After North Korean Provocation, Not Good

With threats of nuclear destruction coming from this fourth world country with nuclear arms, the Obama administration reacted by canceling a missile test to avoid provocation, more leadership from behind!

The problem is the whole world is watching, including serious enemies of the U.S., like Iran, and if they see the U.S. showing weakness, that will only allow them to create other problems for U.S. interests around the world.

As TCR's good friend Gary Bauer says, "Instead of peace through strength, Obama is giving us instability through weakness."

Margaret Thatcher RIP

The great conservative Prime Minister of England is gone. Together with Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II, she helped defeat communism, and put the world in a good place.

The Iron Lady, as she was known, was an outstanding leader. Your editor had the privilege of witnessing her in action during Prime Minister time at the British Parliament, and she was every bit the iron "lady" she was expected to be. It was an incredible performance by a brilliant politician.

TCR found a quote of hers we really thought appropriate, "If you just set out to be liked, you would be prepared to compromise on anything at any time and you would achieve nothing." (May 1989, on her 10th anniversary as Prime Minister) Don't you agree?

Obama Budget Late And Misguided,
And By The Way, Dead On Arrival

Two plus months late, Obama's budget staggers up to Capitol Hill.

So what is President Obama's vision for the next year? $3.8 trillion and a tax increase of $880 billion on top of the tax increase passed in January and the ObamaCare tax increases now in effect.

As for those tax increases, first we have the idea of chained CPI for so-called Social Security benefits, resulting in a lower rate of increase due to inflation. Even the administration admits this is a middle class tax increase.

They're not done, they also want to cap deductions for top earners at 28% even though the tax rate is 39%. This is an unfair tax on charity.

The Obama budget also seeks to put limits on how much can be in our retirement account. Thanks, big brother.

Prospects for passage are nil. The last budget submitted by Obama drew zero votes in either house of Congress.

TCR Comment: Do you think anyone has buyer's remorse about Obama? As the economy stagnates and underemployment and unemployment grows, one wonders when we can get real leadership for America? Also, will it be too late to save America from an economic disaster?

Medicaid In Texas, Any GOP Answers
Besides No?

The big question on Medicaid in Texas is whether we have a conservative plan to propose to the Obama administration so Texas can get its share of the Federal governments grants? Governor Rick Perry's answer is no. Thoughtful conservatives having reviewed ideas on Medicaid reform by the Texas Public Policy Foundation and the Heritage Foundation and others wonder why Texas can't propose its own plan and seek approval? If Obama says no, at least we have tried and we can blame them for not going forward. The Perry way leaves us open to severe criticism.
