Thoughts This Fortnight

Obama's Power Grab

With all the courage of a weasel, President Obama waited until after the recent election to unveil his unconstitutional pseudo-legislative act to grant virtual amnesty for over four million illegals.

The facts are if he had spent the last six years controlling the border, today we could actually discuss what to do about the people here. Instead he resets the clock and encourages more lawlessness.

This is occurring while we face the scandal of part-time jobs in America. As recently put by U.S. News editor Mort Zuckerman:

"The Obama administration and much of the media trumpeting (employment) figures overlook the (fact that the) numbers don't distinguish between new part-time and full-time jobs... What has increased is part-time jobs. Just think of all those Americans working part time, no doubt glad to have the work, but also contending with lower pay, diminished benefits and little job security."

"On July 2, President Obama boasted that the jobs report 'showed the sixth straight month of job growth' in the private economy. 'Make no mistake,' he said, 'we are headed in the right direction.' (The fact is,) only 47.7% of adults in the U.S. are working full-time…. You might as well say that the unemployment rate would be zero if everyone quit looking for work.

"(Recent) involuntary part-timers (are about) 7.5 million, compared with 4.4 million in 2007! Way too many adults now depend on the low-wage, part-time jobs that teenagers would normally fill. Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen had it right in March when she said: 'The existence of such a large pool of partly employed workers is a sign that labor conditions are worse than indicated by the unemployment rate.'

"There are a number of reasons for (this), most importantly a historically low growth rate for an economic 'recovery.' Gross domestic product growth in 2013 was a feeble 1.9%, and it fell at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 2.9% in the first quarter of 2014.

"(And) there is (a) clear contribution to (this) job trend. Many employers cut workers' hours (to under 30 hours a week) to avoid the Affordable Care Act's mandate to provide health insurance to anyone working 30 hours a week or more..."

Thanks a lot Barack.

So we are legalizing millions while American citizens suffer in a difficult job market.

Ideas To Counter Obama, What's The GOP To Do?

The illegal acts by Obama must be resisted. First, only pass a short term spending plan until January when the GOP takes over the Senate, and then pass a spending bill that ensures no money can be spent for the unlawful Obama plan. Second, sue him to stop unconstitutional activity.

Book Review:
A Choice Not An Echo - 50th Anniversary Edition

The 1964 classic, A Choice Not an Echo, has finally been updated. For those of you too young, this book was the beginning of the growth of the conservative movement in America, which led to the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980.

This timeless classic has been updated, and ends with the last chapter "Still Seeking a Choice Not an Echo." When your Editor appeared at an event with Phyllis Schlafly at the 1996 GOP National Convention in San Diego, she was asked where is the sequel to the book, and she said "I haven't written it because I don't know who will be the choice (for President) and not an echo."

At an incredible age of 90 years old, she decided it was time. You should take the time to read this critical book. Find it at your local bookstores or online or go to EagleForum.org and buy lots of copies and give them away like TCR is planning to do.

Obama Distorts Iran Nuclear Deal

It seems the primary occupation of the Obama administration is distortion and spin. They did it on Obamacare. They did it on Amnesty. And now they are doing it on Iranian nuclear power and weapons.

First, they have been negotiating for a long time, and the only beneficiary is Iran as Obama has reduced sanctions. Second, while the negotiations continue, the Iranians are continuing to make progress on a nuclear bomb. Third, it seems Obama will continue to concede to the Iranians, so he can announce any deal.

A bad deal is the worst outcome of all. TCR trusts Senators McCain, Graham, and Ayotte, who say Iran needs to end its enrichment program and dismantle their nuclear weapons program. The U.S. should increase sanctions and we must ensure that any final deal has to be approved by the GOP controlled Congress, who we can trust to protect America.

It's Thanksgiving, Let's Stress Giving
By Brittnay Mossburg

In the midst of the weather change and the holidays fast approaching, many things come to mind - family, friends, tradition, get-togethers, and so on. The holidays are a joyous time, but it can also be a time where the void of loss stretches out to what seems like an unmanageable gap. It may be the loss of a loved one, a job, or a home.

Each person experiences both the highs and lows in life, and what better time to reach out to those who are hurting and stressed than Thanksgiving; a time where gratitude should extend beyond ourselves and our inner circle.

Take your editor for example. Recently he represented a family in Court and discovered that the mother and son were virtually homeless. He called the mother and told her he had a gift for their family for the Thanksgiving holidays. She came to the office and found that he had purchased a generous gift card to one of his own favorite restaurants. She showed such gratitude, real gratitude. It was apparent that there were not many people in her life, showing her kindness. She smiled and told your editor that she couldn't say thank you enough, not only for the small gesture of a Thanksgiving dinner, but the larger investment he had made in their lives by caring and working so hard for them.

Lastly, Let us go back to the word tradition. America has a lot of intercultural traditions, but as a whole, America also has the tradition of being strong, educated, creative, inventive, and most importantly, compassionate. This Thanksgiving take time to give to those who are hurting or struggling under the weight of financial burden, and let's keep America rooted in her tradition.
